"Mmmm, not that kind of club babe," Nika drawled as she poked her head out of the bedroom to see Frankie's hopeful look. No. Not that kind of club at all. "You're staying here or with Zom...or better have Zom stay here with you okay? Hunt took an...interesting turn.

Sure.

Interesting.

In all the worst ways really.

It was one thing to get roped in on a Burning Woman case, missing people weren't her preference, objects were far less fussy, but the woman had a compelling and deep reason to keep looking for her child, and it had taken something other like Nika to get her bound to her a word. A year for someone else to find the child.

Lucky her the ghost was in a slower time pocket from the one the hunt had led to. Find the boy.

The demon bred boy forced on a woman so broken and abused she hadn't remembered fire and glory in her own bloodlines until she was long past dead. Demons did like breaking their toys, better if they could besmirch one of the old Abraham bloodlines. Demons.

Feh.

She'd traced in her quiet way until she realized something interesting. The demon layer whose resonance she was tracing...was recruiting. Desperately hunting. That meant if she was seen, knowing she had dealt demons fair in the past, they'd remember she was a hunter, and her quarry might come to her. Better, she was strong enough that they had to come at her properly about a job.

They just might be desperate enough for that hmmmm?

But it meant some unsavory club, and places far less mortal friendly than she preferred to be at with her boyfriend and his best friend black. "There'll be blood babe, think gothic torture chamber levels, though I promise no one else gets to lick blood off sensitive bits okay?" she teased gently, petting the pretty little ebony corset Frankie had been hoping to get her into with a sigh. "I love it. We'll go clean clubbing after this hunt I promise. I'll need it, you'll need it, Blot will steal a wine bottle from the bar..." Because there was nothing like the promise of coming back to something good and clean to get a girl through dancing with demons yes.

"I told you lately how lucky I am that you date me?" Utterly. He wasn't exactly human anymore, not being a close to death as he had been for so long then getting firebird ashed (and other birdie bits she was happy to share behind closed doors!) but he was closer to normal and healthy than many people she'd come across over the years and it was good for her yes. Important it wasn't a one way dating type deal.

Yup.

"Plus you babysit Blot." Her little dope of an ink dragon loved hanging out at the tattoo parlor Frankie and Zom ran, getting absolutely spoiled on ink pigments and cooing at pretty art that didn't coo back. Idiot boy. "Seriously though, ANYTHING puts your back up you're moving in here or the shop okay?" Just in case. The last time demons had tried the collateral damage thing with her or Aloysha they'd lost an entire Hell realm, but some demons didn't know that.

She'd pity them but really, why bother? Demons didn't appreciate it.

A good kiss and she was dropping the real apartment keys in Frankie's hand. The ring with the anchor stone to her actual locks, safest way she knew to make him in her absence yes. If anything tried to take a swing at her lover the apartment protections would wrap around him no matter where he was! Then she was laughing and goosing him proper before slipping away sideways and down a bit in reality to some of the darker sides of darker towns.

She always loved dancing in any club honestly, she'd been in most clubs, good and bad to do just that. Making another set of rounds wasn't at all out of the ordinary for her, and she looked gorgeous in glitter dust and blood, it shimmered like dark rubies against her dancing flame. They'd see how many clubs it took before the demons of the right resonance got up their nerve hmmm?

They had to be pretty desperate to be willing to talk to someone like her.

Pretty desperate indeed.

Odds were pretty good that the desperation was tangled up with her own hunt, important things tended to fall together like that. Time would tell.

Hmmm, well then, she'd stick in the area for a while, see if he showed back up. Considering she ended up on a park bench drinking soda syrup and giggling well...maybe it was even less of a problematic location?

"May as well come out kid," she finally laughed. "Why the staring? Never seen a sugaring bird before?"

"That's nice, what's in it for me?" She snorted, patting the bench in invitation. "I'm an independent contractor, not someone you can strong-arm you know."

“Riches I’m sure.”

"Nah, boring, don't need them. Next?"

“What do you want?”

"Hmmm, am I talking to the guy in charge?" She grinned.

“No and you won’t.”

"Then you don't get a hunter who can actually do the job," she shrugged.

“There’s other ways.” He shrugged and turned to go.

"Demons aren't desperate enough to approach me if the other ways have worked," she pointed out, returning to her snack.

“Yes we’ll, I can’t let you near my father. We’re not that stupid.”

"You say like you're not an obvious conduit," she snorted.

“He doesn’t care what you do to me.”

"And I can't take the word of a middleman on payments and the like. Especially with demon ilk, so..."

“By that logic, you couldn’t take his word either so...”

"He is in control of resources, even if not precisely his realm, it's like talking to a business accountant who has authorization I'd suppose."

"Cool, then no way we can work together then. Have fun elsewhere finding your sib."

He shrugged and walked away.

She'd give it a week hanging in this area and ending on the park bench each night yup.

He was vaguely around but never approached her again. He could not bring something back that would be able to kill his father so...

"...you realize inter realm phones, video calls, or even him using your mouth is a thing right?" She drawled later that week as she was playing 'catch marshmallows in her mouth before crows got them' on the bench.
